The Pit
Although the seasons
Come and go,
I pray that my sobriety
Will constantly grow.
For years on end
I’ve tried to quit,
To pull myself out
Of that deep, dark pit.
It was years ago
When I fell into the trap,
It’s filled with alcohol,
Drugs and crap.
The walls are soaked
With suffering and pain,
The guilt and remorse
Eat away at my brain.
I pulled myself [...]

Have you ever
Heard the laughter
Of the folks
Who made it “Home”?
The ones who walked
Wondered and waited
Just to see a smile.
Recovery is a joyous gift
That brightens up the Soul.
The laughter returns as we share
Our Journey to the things that made us whole.
Thanks for the song of laughter
That gives laughter to my night.
Thanks for the smile
That makes it [...]

Epitaph to Insanity. –
You came to me
As if a friend,
And stole
My Soul
In the end.
My many friends
And loved ones true,
You did your best
To steal them too.
But with the angels
Love and grace,
I’ve been lifted
From that awful place.
And now I leave you
Six feet down,
Rotting beneath
Your evil crown.
-Guest poet
Sherman R.

Living in the moment
Doing the ‘do things’.
Being all that I can be
(All that You created me to be.)
Giving and loving
Being open
Doing for the Master.
Letting go for me
Is being unattached to the results.
It is not my responsibility
How the gift is received.
It is my responsibility
To have and use the God given ability
To respond to Spirit’s sweet Voice
That [...]

I love the smell of a tomato field.
We picked them for Aunt Annie in the summer in New Brunswick.
I wanted a perfume that smelled like the vines and leaves.
Brandie made turkey bacon and tomato sandwiches for breakfast
When we had gathered together when you went Home.
You made the best sliced tomato platter when we were growing [...]

The girl’s were getting together to “dish the dirt“
I thought they would be planting seeds or something.
They were.
They were gossiping…seeds of ‘dirt’about another Soul.
When day is done they put our ashes in dirt.
We cleanse our Soul to release the dirt.
We pray.
Do our step work and take the dirt
To our sponsor and release to our Higher [...]

My charming friend
who neither reads
nor writes
teaches me:
“Things will be alright.”
He bought some tea
put it on the table.
I asked what kind
He laughs “Who reads the label?”
“I have such fun finding new things.”
“No such thing as tea being tea.”
“I want it to be exciting…
so I will wait until someone
comes and puts the kettle on.
Then we will [...]

You are compassionate
Understanding my stress when no one else can.
Your training in elder care
gives me a confidence
that nothing I am learning is new to you.
When my confusion and doubts come
You do not walk away.
You are there for me.
I need not mourn the loss of my youth
You are beside me.
You show me truth.
You [...]

The One I allow to see me
The One who hears me cry
The One who always loves me
The One who never asks why.
The One who walks beside me
When other friends have gone.
The One who can forgive me
For all the things I have done wrong.
The One who lives within me.
The One who fills the void.
The One [...]

She is “old enough to know better
too young to resist”
She is fun.
She is flirty.
She is happy.
She is full of bliss.
She is totally insane.
She loves walking barefoot.
She loves walking in rain.
She enjoys children.
People who are young
are her teachers.
People who are old
are her peers.
She is full of laughter.
Much younger than her years.
She is wise.
She is witty.
I [...]
