Counselor to Admitting nurse:

What do you have for me today?

Nurse:                                                                Classic case of delusions of grandeur.  This one calls himself God.

Counselor

Oh great, just what I need on a busy Monday morning….an addict alcoholic who thinks he is God.

Nurse:                                                                  It is worse than that….he knows he is.

Counselor                                                     Let me at him…..after coffee.

Counselor to well-groomed man in blue jeans and bush/bike attire.

C:     Well there certainly isn’t much information on your file here.  Would you please answer these questions for me….so I can fill in the blanks.

GOD:                               Certainly

Counselor:     What is your real name.  Would you spell it for me please?

GOD:      God.    G   O  D

You can call me GEE   you know like in Gee Whiz or GOD.

Counselor: Where do you live?

GOD:    Everywhere

Counselor:   What do you do for a living?

GOD: I love

Counselor:  What do you love?

GOD:    All that I created

Counselor:  What did you create?

GOD:      Everything

Counselor: You expect me to believe that you are God when you are being admitted to a rehab centre for alcohol and drug abuse?

GOD:  Yes, that is right.

Counselor:  How long have you been drinking and using drugs?

GOD:  A couple of hundred years

Counselor:   Why did you start to abuse yourself  like this?

                                                                                             GOD:   My children forgot me”

They destroyed each other. They were destroying Mother Earth.

Since  I could not help them find me…I thought I would come to where they are really searching for me.

In order to fit in I drank and I used drugs.

But it did not work for me anymore and my universe was becoming unmanageable.

Counselor:  Oh, my God !!

GOD:  Yes

Counsellor:  I mean, er, do really think you are going to convince me or anyone here that

ONE  you do exist

TWO   That you are real

THREE that you have drinking and drug problem?

GOD:   How would you explain what is happening

on the streets today if God were as you say alive, well and real.

I am alive.  I am real.  But I am not well.

Counsellor:   How are you not well?

GOD:  I am lonely, depressed and tired of being not listed to.

Counsellor:  What, do you mean, you actually talk to people when you are being God, er, when you are yourself?

GOD:   Yes, I talk in thunder,

in the voice of your friends.

I am heard in the silence of the sweat lodge.

I am heard well in the heart beat of the drum.

My voice is best heard,  in the way your beloved speaks your name.

Counsellor:   Do you have any friends or family we can contact in case of an emergency?

GOD:   Yes, the animals….the plants…..the rocks and stars.

They have not forgotten me.

  They carry my voice.

The four-legged ones, the winged ones, they know me.

They know my name   They serve me.

They tried to teach my children

but since it was not on a cell phone, the internet or on their PDA or ipod no one paid attention.

Ducks became horses

By the time I got to realize

By the time I opened my eyes

I only thought to get my ducks in a row

They had grown into to horses with riders.

So on Soul’s knees I surrender.

Turn it over to remember.

When I let things get out of control

I can turn ducks into horses.

Easter the Reserrection of Memories – a poem for Melissa and the crew

Bright as chickens

peeping under hatching lights.

Vibrant as Dream catchers

glistening in the sun.

Remembrances and embraces

Our hearts dancing as one.

Katimavik  leaving

after months of intense service…

The joy they brought our Elder’s here.

Their energy and questions of life

 oozing out of every pour.

Their kind listenings and understandings

of the pain that aging brings

Enhanced our days

and now  their praises

we in memories sing.

Remembrances and embraces

Our hearts dancing as one.
