“Upon Awakening
Soul will be free.”
That is the promise that was given to me.
I was a child sitting in church
What did I know?
I knew of the wondrous things.
I lived in the moment.
I heard angels sing
I was told to sit still,
I wanted to move,
I wanted to dance,
I wanted to laugh,
I was told to be quiet.
I was angry that I could not be free.
In my youth, I rebelled.
I searched for the truth.
I looked everywhere to fill the void.
Used any substance to kill the pain.
I was so angry I had not danced in the rain.
I knew in my heart that laughter was not bad.
I was told to behave.
I was so sad.
As an adult, I tried to control.
I ran in a rage.
My addictions were my self-built cage.
Then came the awakening.
I learned I had “choice”.
I learned I could surrender.
I learned I could “follow this path”.
I could be free.
I could dance in the Sunlight of the Spirit.
I could have my own voice.
I learned to recover.
I took the Steps.
I went to meetings.
I learned to pray.
I surrender my past
Each moment, each day.
I learned to laugh.
Now, I am aging
I can tell you now each moment
Is a celebration.
It is so peaceful.
That awakening happens.
I fall on Soul’s knees.
I sing loud with Praise.
I am grateful each moment.
I have learned of the Ways
to be happy, joyous, free.
I sing a new song.
I bask in the Light.
Upon awakening
I am filled with joy
So grateful that Spirit
Had filled up the void.
That does not mean
I am a saint
Those folks that know me
Can tell you I ain’t.
It does mean that
I have a choice.
I can hear the sweet music
Or I can live in a rage.
Each moment is an awakening.
It’s beauty is wonderous.
I digress
I want so much to share
This new life
There are no words to tell you
How much is available
On the “recovery express’.
Yes, society makes us “behave” when we want to dance and sing and tell the world we are different. As we grow older we learn our own truths. One of them is universal: Spirit, God.
Wonderful writing! Kudoz!
